To sound as brutal and impacting to the point of making walls tremble as old Hardcore/Thrashcore bands from the second half of the 80’s is not as easy as some can think. But there are some maniacs that show to have guts and make things work out on such way, as the Tel Aviv ears rippers from 03, as the EP
“Don’t You Want Closure” states clearly. Musically, they’re into a trend similar to old Hardcore/Crossover names from New York. Names as
CRO-MAGS, AGNOSTIC FRONT, and obviously, they have the Crossover fury of bands like
SOD and
DRI, and even some influences from old
PANTERA albums. Their songs are short, but are long enough to break necks and provoke riots. Yes, it’s great, indeed.
Musically, the listener must have in mind the clear idea that HC/TC can’t be recorded with an absolute clean sound quality. It must be aggressive, crude and straight (not to the point of becoming a fuzzy mass of sound), and the one who worked on mixing and mastering did the things as they must be. But the listener will understand everything.
“Despite You” is a fast and brutal song, short and a bearing and amazing energy based on very good guitars and screams; and
“Closure” bears the same elements, to feed the insanity and start riots, and what a good work from bass guitar and drums (because there are some tempo changes during the song). On
“Olive Branch”, the tempos become slow, with that energy that can be traced back to CBGB HC nights, and another song with very good vocals and backing vocals. And
“Weakling” is another Hardcore invitation to moshpit, with faster tempos and bull’s-eye riffs.
Yes, the band has talent and can grow a lot, because
“Don’t You Want Closure” shows energy and a strong musical work. And
03 really have guts!
