A Tree of Signs - Salt

A Tree of Signs
Salt
by Daniel Silva at 24 December 2012, 5:13 PM

A TREE OF SIGNS is a Portuguese-Swedish self-described Alchemy Doom Rock, which means Doom Metal with lyrics pertaining to Alchemical manuscripts seeking to bring them to life through ritualistic music, as the official Facebook page of the band describes. At first when I read this, it seemed like a good combination and the EP seemed to have great potential, but unfortunately when I listened to the record it was really disappointing.

For starters the band has an odd structure, having no electric guitar to play leads, being composed solely by drums and bass and the occasional keyboards, besides the vocals of course, at first this seemed really interesting being a bit outside the normal, but this lack of the guitar was the main flaw, as it focused more on the repetition of the bass and drums rendering the songs really boring and tiresome, not to mention lacking a bit of a more melodic strength, this, allied with the vocals, made for a sleep-inducing record.

So, not unless their objective was to create a Metal lullaby record, this effort is a really disappointing one.
