This is the debut album from the Italian Crossover Death/Grind Metal band known as ABBINORMAL. Rising from former members of NO!, they released this album in the middle of September. They hail from Milan Italy and have been at it since 2017. Most of these tracks were written over twenty years ago, actually the name of the album is called ‘’1996’’ for this specific reason. These songs were written a very long time ago and they got tweaked and re-arranged a number of times but the drummer was the main instigator on these songs being finally released. He worked a frenetic pace to modify and perfect these songs for this first release. The band did however write seven new songs for this album. You got 16 songs that total a whopping 20 minutes.
Grindcore is a sight for sore eyes for many fans out there. There is a niche crowd for this genre and I don’t mind the genre whenever it’s well represented and its arguably well-written. Well..this isn’t the case on this album. According to most articles I read about the band, in their native language or other websites out there, they are considered as a Crossover outfit, which I honestly disagree. This is a bit of an aberration to be perfectly honest with you guys. Look, I can understand the pure frenetic pace of the genre and it’s overall effect ton people. I dig the energy, the pure adrenaline you get but this just doesn’t speak to me at all. I was waiting for something along the lines of Grindcore Crossover masters like NAILS but all I got was a Great Value version of it. It was disappointing to say the least, it’s comical at best. It’s pure mayhem, no real structure. Just aggressive for the sake of it, no rhyme or reason. Nothing groundbreaking and nothing to write home about.
