Abnormality – Sociopathic Constructs Award winner

Sociopathic Constructs
by Brian "Metal" Morton at 12 May 2019, 11:50 AM

ABNORMALITY has released their newest album “Sociopathic Constructs” and it is one hell of an album. Since forming in 2005 they have released three full length albums and they get better each release. Most of their lyrics involve conspiracy theories, death and science fiction. The Guitarists Jeremy Henry and Sam Kirsch are two of the best in Death Metal. Drummer Jay Blaisdell and Bassist Josh Staples are two phenomenal musicians and Vocalist Mallika Sundaramurthy is one of the best Death Metal Vocalists around right now.

The album begins with the song “Monarch Alpha” which I believe is a follow up to their song “Monarch Omega” off of their album “Contamination the Hive Mind” released in 2012. The song boasts a robust level of sheer insanity. This is one of the best Technical Death Metal songs I have heard this year. “Penance” is a whole new level of intensity. I think this might be their sleeper song, at first listen you may just think it’s just another song, but if you listen carefully, you can heard just how complex the song is.

“Kakistocracy” is absolutely brutal and really had me going. The entire band throws down on this song and it’s almost genius level. Warning, you may want to find the closest place to start a pit while listening to this song. “Transmogrification of the Echobugs”, what a name?! That title is a mouthful but the song is an ear full of Tech Death bliss. Anytime a band has it to where you can actually hear the bassist I will point it out because it’s very rare. “Transmogrification of the Echobugs” actually blew out one side of my headphones, thanks ABNORMALITY!

“A Catastrophic and Catalyzing Event” is a song where all I can say is GOD DAMN this song is insane! This is one of those songs where it makes you want to go bitch slap the next person you see. This is definitely one of the best songs on the album so far. “Aeturnum” is a short interlude into the next song “Dying Breed”  which starts of immediately in your face. This song is more of a down tempo song but it still delivers. Get ready to have that look on your face cause this song is nasty! “A Seething Perversion” which is the second to last song on “Sociopathic Constructs” This song is wonderfully written and intricate. I absolutely love this song because it has a mixture of Tech Death and Step Death in it.

The final song is “Curb Stomp” and it sure lives up to it’s name. My ear drum feel like they have been stomped into the ground. This is by far the most brutal song on the album and I’m very glad they saved it for last. Mallika Sundaramurthy is in 100% beast mode on this track. I am a huge fan of hers as well as the rest of the band, but her vocals are something else. I’m very glad I was able to review this album because I have been following them for years and I will for the foreseeable future.
