Abysmal Grief - We Lead The Procession

Abysmal Grief
We Lead The Procession
by Marcos "Big Daddy" Garcia at 19 June 2014, 8:18 PM

And the Italian quartet ABYSMAL GRIEF is back with another very good release, a compilation called “We Lead the Procession”, honoring a career of almost 20 years.

For those who don’t know their work, they’re specialists in doing a Doom Metal that make shivers runs down our spine, not sounding beautiful or gentle, but abusive heavy and with a very hard taste of terror in vocal interpretation, helped by keyboard arrangements very darkened, with great guitar riffs and rhythmic basis giving support. So it’s a very strong and morbid music.

The sound quality varies during the entire album but at least we must keep in mind that it’s a compilation, so it has some work from rehearsal tapes, unreleased versions, one unreleased song (“Procession”), two covers, and a videoclip.

The finest moments are “Open Sepulchre” and “Fear of Profanation”, both being in different versions from the previous ones. But as well the version for BATHORY’s “Raise the Dead” and DEATH SS“Profanation”, what shows a band with a large range of musical influences. But of course all the material is fine, and no song previously released is here, what make the album more tasteful.

Very, very good work!
