Active Stenosis – Succumbed To Infection

Active Stenosis
Succumbed To Infection
by Lotty Whittingham at 19 May 2015, 9:55 PM

Cybergrind/Gorenoise formation know as NX5 started his career back in Russia 2006;  in the year 2009 he moved to Greece and changed the band name to ACTIVE STENOSIS taking  a more old school Grindcore route with him. He has released his first full length album titled “Succumbed To Infection” and let me be one to say that the album certainly lives up to the name.

Being completely honest; I was ready to jump in with how I think the vocals on the album sounded like someone was slurping a huge bottle of fizzy pop and burping out the contents. Alongside the tuneless guitars and unstructured drum patterns it made the music quite unbearable to listen to in my honest opinion. The only tolerable part being the extremley short duration of the songs meaning there isn’t a lot of time to endure what seems like excruciating pain. Even when their seemed to be excellent melodic guitar work particularly on the tracks “Bilharzia (Parasitic Schistosoma Trematode Worms)” and “Hydrocarbon Inhalation (Fatal Malignant Arrhythmia)” which are then abruptly followed by the incredibly aggressive music that in my opinion makes the music rather insufferable.

Having said this I am not the biggest fan of this particular genre of metal and unfortunately this album has reinforced this dislike. However I am aware that there are fans of this genre of metal and gathering from comments from various social media sources they are pleased with the sound and highly praising his project. This has given me a different perspective of the genre and the band itself, from these comments at least I know what great Grindcore Metal sounds like meaning I do have a more positive outlook on the album and the genre.

The overall conclusion; this album and band may have been far away from my preferred taste but for those who are diehard fans of the genre and the band they will love this specimen.
