Affaire - Neon Gods

Neon Gods
by Bruno Diniz at 17 July 2017, 2:26 PM

The Portuguese quartet of the band AFFÄIRE releases its first EP after their debut full-length album entitled "At First Sigh". The formers of the band are JP Costanza (Drums & Backing Vocals), Rick Rivotti (Guitars & Backing Vocals), Dizzy Dice Mike (Vocals) and Tawny Rawk (Bass & Backing Vocals) and they bring an inspired Hard Rock with a strong Glam influence backing into the 80's. I confess that I usually get a little bit afraid when new bands intend to make one project with a lot of influence from the past, usually or leave a copy or it is something that does not bring so much excitement or something new. This is definitely not the case in "Neon Gods", which consists of four great songs from the band, plus a great BEATLES cover. An interesting fact about the band is that between their first album and EP production, the band went on tour with PAUL DI'ANNO and HOUSE OF LORDS.

With a simple and direct production, plus a very good mixing, this EP starts with the track "Neon Gods" with a beat well cadenced, and at the same time very strong riffs. It is impossible not to remember Hair Metal through experience. The good quality of backing vocals also draws attention. "All Messed Up" basically follows the same line as its predecessor, but Dizzy's vocal seemed more aggressive. In "Shotgun Marriage" we have some drop in quality, and also some lack of creativity. "The Hitcher" shows a heavier sound and great chorus. "I Saw Her Standing There" Beatles cover, waxes the work brilliantly with a few punk touches and a very original rendition of the band. We have to consider that "Neon Gods" may show a promising future for the band’s next full-length album. The variation of the songs, besides a great production makes the band AFFÄIRE stand out the majority and take then to the spotlight.
