Ajattara - Tyhjyys (CD)

Ajattara
Tyhjyys
by Evi Tsitsi at 15 December 2004, 8:52 PM

Ajattara is not quite what you'd call a famous Black Metal act, despite the fact that Pasi Koskinen , the ex-vocalist of Amorphis, is a member of this band. But that doesn't mean that Ajattara is on the same category as Amorphis. It is obvious that Ajattara literally escapes from the Gothic Metal paths of Amorphis; they are more aggressive and the vocals are much more brutal.
When Amorphis' ex-frontman joined the band, they were under the pseudonym of Ruoja. Ajattara debuted in 1996 as a side project and issued the demo Helvetissa On Syntisen Taivas in 1998. Bass player Atoni is Toni Larmasta of Northern Discipline , whilst drummer Malakias (Antti Salo) is also active with Pesticore and Antenna. Tyhjyys is Ajattara's third album, released through Spikefarm Records.
A classic Black Metal album with the usual atmospheric intro and outro alike most Black Metal pieces. Pasi escapes from the known - clear vocals of Amorphis and can be heard much more aggressive and brutal. Many guitar melodies and Heavy yet slow riffs with many alternations from song to song. Some synths make a much more Epic and Doomy atmosphere. Pasi successfully exhibits his capabilities on Brutal vocals. The album has very good production and the bass plays a lead role which makes this release even heavier.
Slow Black Metal mixed with Epic Metal and some Bathory (Hammerheart-era moments). Simple piece of work yet remarkable.
- Album Highlights: Langenuut.
