Ancient Creation - Evolution Bound (CD)

Ancient Creation
Evolution Bound
by Julia Brown at 06 December 2007, 1:42 PM

With their new album, Evolution Bound, the five guys from Missouri try to show the world that heavy metal doesn't need to sound modern or trendy in any way. They just make it all become clear, that this is heavy metal in it's purest form. This album sounds like a good combination of IRON MAIDEN, ZERO HOUR and the earlier FATES WARNING stuff.
The opening song, The Brotherhood, already convinces us with powerful drums, amazing guitar solos and riffs and the deep and great voice of Steve Bentley. The way they go on in their second song, Taste Of Morality, and the up-tempo Lost Angels indicate that this is not standard European heavy metal with nothing but heavy drum sounds, fast guitar riffs and the singer's voice quality almost completely unattended. This album shows - especially in the guitar section - a great ability to play excellent solos and (in all member's cases) a great musicianship. I'd call it technical Power Metal on a very high level.
The third song Carrion is the longest track on the album. Long but not boring in any way. I'd suggest you listen to the first three songs and you'll know what the album's character is like.
Altogether, the album is on a high musical level but in case of mixing and producing it's an absolute disaster! The production is like an old demo tape and doesn't sound like a modern studio record. But (anyhow) I guess that this album can definitely be enjoyed by a wide section of fans of great American power metal.
