Ancient Rites - Dim Carcosa (CD)

Ancient Rites
Dim Carcosa
by Manolis Moundrianakis at 28 June 2001, 9:54 PM

Ancient Rites is a band that has been around since 1989 and was there with the second wave of black metal straight from the start, and now these guys are releasing their latest full length album named 'Dim Carcosa'.

Ancient Rites is a band that combines a lot of stuff in their music. It can be melodic with an epic feeling and on the other hand it can become hellishly fast filled with hatred. To be frank with you when I first listened to the cd I was shocked, I didn't expect it to be that good, I expected something of a medium scale. To make it simpler this is a record where everything falls together, the musical skill (which has improved a lot), the awesome lyrics and the excellent design. From the time the cd started playing I was in a state of ecstasy (no,im not doing drugs :p). 'Dim Carcosa' keeped impressing me with every note I heard, from the killer melodic intro to the great riffs that every song had. One minor bad detail was that in two songs the main riff was repeated several times and this is where I got a bit bored.

What should go together with a good album is a good production and that's exactly the case here. A killer production accompanies 'Dim Carcosa'. I really tried hard but still in vain to find any bad things that would indicate an average production. The sound is crystal clear.

Well what can I say ? Good work guys and all you metal freaks go get it NOW!!!
