Antipope - 3 Eyes Of Time

3 Eyes Of Time
by Manel Lilioth at 29 April 2013, 2:32 PM

Finnish extreme Metallers ANTIPOPE released the third full-length album "3 Eyes Of Time" through Violent Journey Records. In overview, may it deliver groove pieces and quite nasty wicked Metal genre but it failed to amaze me. With the mixing of elements from traditional Heavy Metal with extreme Metal, ANTIPOPE created, unfortunately, uninteresting materials but still a listenable Metal album. Due the luck of originality it’s hard to point out their direct influences even their art cover is very simple and poorly designed.

Focusing on their instrumental work, “Close” opens with electric guitar solo that approaches to “Sweet Dreams” of EURYHMICS. After closing our eyes, Myllykangas will appear in three different faces: clean voice, whispers and groggy vocal that on one title so unconfident. They tried hard to make it different but they couldn’t accomplish it, “Last chance” sounds like the heaviest of the album by using extreme distorted guitar riffs and blast beat drumming, and the rest of the songs represent traditional heavy roots with all its features. Unlike “Guiding light” derives from completely different wave of Thrash Metal characterized typically its fast tempo and aggression and accelerated percussive beats with shouted voice.

"3 Eyes Of Time" an album where no archetypical melodies in it and no personality shines through it, however, I still thank them for their hard work and for their sense of indifference.
