AntropomorphiA - Sermon Ov Wrath Award winner

Sermon Ov Wrath
by Craig “Thrashing” Rider at 19 May 2017, 2:35 PM

Metal maniacs, rejoice! I'm proud to present to you: ANTROPOMORPHIA; signed via Metal Blade Records, hailing from the Netherlands - performing Death Metal, on their 4th album entitled “Sermon Ov Wrath”. (Released February 24th, 2017)

Since formation in 1989; the quintet in question have 3 albums behind them, I'm introduced to their 4th deliverance - “Sermon Ov Wrath”. Combining a very distinctive formulation of brute Death Metal, and a hint of Black Metal atmosphere; ANTROPOMORPHIA contribute to the sub-genres exceedingly well. Ranging at around 38:56 consisting of 9 intense tracks – the opening titular track, delivers a punch line of constructive elegance that features galloping instrumentation and destructive musicianship, notable right off the speakers are from vocalist F.D.A., if you love CANNIBAL CORPSE then it's quite evident that this here quartet will grab you in diligently – performing top-notch Death Metal vocals of an own characteristic, the man also showcases complex, dexterous riffs in which efficiently provide vehement enlightenment. “Suspiria de Profundis” pummels eardrums with more exquisite songwriting with distinguishing results.

The crushing powerhouse from Marco Stubbe on drums and Marc van Stiphout consistently exercises in a fulfilling sound production that's equally pummeling; original, and memorable. I can't help but notice an interesting element that implements some BEHEMOTH influences; which is very much welcome and sounds apparent as you continue the album. “Murmur ov the Dead” creatively composes more organic aesthetics; succulently feeding my inner self with a solid, fist-pumping substance in their efforts. As a Death Metal maniac; I am already enjoying a nice slab of intricately designed and unprecedented Death Metal. Not forgetting to mention Jon van den Brand on guitar who sufficiently brutalizes his axe with adapt proficiency and flair, matching string to string with rhythmic prominence. “Ad Me Venite Mortui” flourishes with more groovy stimulation and coherence.

Crown ov the Dead” has a choir-esquire chorus that is unparalleled with stunning effects while keeping the deadly teamwork in check; this stems with a very diverse sound in the Death Metal realm substantially. “Sinful Rapture” supplies gorier intentions with guttural growls going in high strong with precision; while formulating delicately produced arrangements. Concluding the final 3 tracks with “Within Her Pale Tomb ov Putrid Lust”, “The Blistering Splendour ov Darkness” & “In Bestial Decadence” - I am overall compelled to say that ANTROPOMORPHIA (cool name, but a mouthful) delightfully recruited a new fan among their ranks, “Sermon Ov Wrath” is a typical Death Metal record and the quintet outdid themselves, profusely distributing tormenting adroitness and immensity - any Death Metal fanatic would be a fool to pass this one up. Go check them out via their Bandcamp, and have a listen for free - right now.
