Arkadia - Tailwind

by Lior "Steinmetal" Stein at 12 November 2012, 1:04 PM

It has been three years since the first time that I laid my ears on this Finnish band named ARKADIA, once called MY CATHEDRAL. It started with their 2009’s EP “A Drop From The Past” then followed by the demo release of “Vindication For The Lost” and now I have here “Tailwind” another two songs demonstration of the band’s ongoing progress. Generally I rather liked these two great songs that displayed a sort of a melancholic Heavy Metal featuring some wonderful melodies alongside the fragmentary agony and suicidal Rock. The band has its fair share of the late era SENTENCED vibe and with these two no presentations it seemed that they reached deeper ends while resembling TO/DIE/FOR. I assumed that “Tailwind” presents yet another step in the band’s development while also displaying another addition to their identity that replaced the harshness of the earlier days and paved the road to a more dark, yet melodic and comforting zones.

The smooth melodic “Tailwind” is amazing with a strong chorus and well done lead guitar licks. As for the “Parenthesis Of Life”, it took me a bit to get used to it but in the end I came to like it as well. While thinking about it, after showing their faces in rather varied forms, I came down to one single notion - how about ARKADIA finally releasing that long awaited debut album? Come on guys, I think that the Metal world had enough with small releases and it’s time to show the band’s true power, elegance and beauty through a full length release. This is the first time that I am actually writing what I am saying regarding this band and I think that the day of the debut has come and it has been banging on the door step pretty hard. Nonetheless, the small offering is sweet with a lot of flavour. It is good getting those but I would have preferred a full length release way better.
