I hope none of you forgot about the groundbreaking Metalcore giants who shattered your hometown and created an army of loyal fans after their continuous, successful releases.
AS I LAY DYING is back, their arsenal is loaded, and they’re ready to fire their weapons of mass destruction straight at your ears. So wear your armour, sit still, and enjoy the fireworks.
“Awakened” is the band’s sixth album, the latest addition into the band’s considerably big discography, which has 3 successful albums that made it into official charts. I enjoyed
“The Powerless Rise” a lot back in 2010, and that feeling has been brought back to life with this latest album. Now let me talk a bit about it.
Thematically, the album takes a turn from
“The Powerless Rise”, and engages in a much faster onslaught of Metalcore instrumentally. Goddamn, this sounds good.
“Cauterize”,
“Resilience”, and
“Overcome” are some of the best to name a few. Guitars are so well done and have evolved more melody and unique riffs.
If you’re a big fan of the band, you’ll fully understand what I mean. The Metalcore formula is altered and not repeated here. The band chose their tracklist wisely, well, because I haven’t gotten bored one bit since pressing play.
I also loved the bass. For the first time I’m commenting on the bass on a Metalcore album, especially on the track
“Defender”. The vocals are great as always,
Tim Lambesis never fails to disappoint, ever, and arguably one of the most talented vocalists in the genre. Everything else is top notch; I can’t say anything else really.
If you want to mosh, cause some mayhem, and enjoy a great Metalcore album,
“Awakened” is the album for you. You’re not going to be disappointed at all, I guarantee it.
