Atena – Drowning Regret & Lungs Filled With Water

Drowning Regret & Lungs Filled With Water
by Jojo "Rocket Queen" Hamilton at 10 February 2020, 11:17 AM

ATENA are a Deathcore band from Norway. They have released the new album “Drowning Regret & Lungs Filled With Water” which is an 11 song album. The band formed in 2010 and this is their new album under Indie Recordings record label. The new album was released on January 23rd 2020.  The album plays for 31 minutes 28 seconds over 11 songs. This is the bands 4th studio album and is a rather fine album to listen to. The lyrics are excellent, sung with fire and passion. The music is 2nd to none and varies from gentle to extremely heavy throughout the songs on the album showing the variety of tones the band has to offer. The 11 songs on the album are ace to listen to bringing so much to the table musically & lyrically. If you like Deathcore Metal this album will not disappoint.

To summarise the album I will highlight a few tracks to give a sample of through the new album. Starting off with the song “Born Rotten” which is song number 2. It’s a song that opens heavy with screaming vocals & heavy guitar riffs that blow you away. It’s a track that shows heavy sides to the band. Song number 4 “Let Them Hang In The Halls” is a great song. It brings home the heaviness of the Deathcore band with an almost KORN feel to the music as it opens. It’s a song that gives us the riffs to swing our heads to. Foe me the highlight of the album is song number 6 which is called “+473029” and is a rather creepy tune which I really enjoyed. It’s a child’s voice on a voicemail which itself is creepy in a Metal kinda way and drew me right in. Definitely one to listen out for.

Overall this has been a good album to review and has gave me a new found appreciation for a genre I never previously listened to, so my thanks to ATENA for opening my eyes to a new style. For fans of the band & fans of Deathcore Metal it’s highly reccomended as a great piece of music to get stuck into. I didn’t find any songs on the album I didn’t like and I can say I thoroughly enjoyed listening to & reviewing the new album. I think it has been well written & recorded and rather well produced to boot. It’s an album you can head bang to at home & start a mosh pit to at a gig, I hope to see the band live in the UK sometime.
