Catacombs

Metal maniacs, rejoice! I’m proud to present to you: ATOMWINTER; signed via Trollzorn Records, hailing from the glory of Germany - performing Death Metal, on their 3rd full-length album entitled: “Catacombs” (released February 9th, 2018).

Since formation in 2010; the quintet in question have 2 full-length albums on their discography so far, including a Demo, EP and a Single. I am introduced to their 3rd album entitled: “Catacombs”. 10 tracks ranging at around 39:59, ATOMWINTER arrange an intricately designed slab of concretely solid developments of hard-hitting Death Metal distinctions. The cryptic introductory track begins the record, until the titular track blows the speakers with savagely sinister results. There is a hint of detailed juxtapostions of Blackened Death Metal characteristics, which excel with proficient executions that are fuelled with dominately consistent hostility - like an atomic nuclear warhead, devastating the land with ultimately destructive force.

Consisting of Oliver "Olle" Holzschneider on the vocals, the death growler delivers a complex formula of deep, guttural raspiness. “Dark Messiah” showcased high-pitched shrieks, and an organic aesthetic of blisteringly fluid substances in the vocalization adroitness - with extreme blood in the voicebox. The pummelling powerhouse from bassist Martin S. demonstrated some primitive technicalities in the song “Sadistic Intents”, and the meticulous rhythms from guitarist Bennie G. provide bouncy, yet crunchy efficaciousness - hardened with enlightening and thumpy diligence. “Ancient Rites”, efficiently distributing some relentlessly stimulating riffs and remarkably razor-sharp solos.

Gathering Of The Undead” established unique songwriting captivation, as drummer Patrick W. supplied a grandiose manifestation of battering creativity and skill. “Carved In Stone” continued the frenzied assault of chaotic mayhem, stampeding away with fierce intensity as the monstrously composed instrumentation and musicianship hooks me greatly - similarly profound in the massive “Necromancer”. “Morbid Lies” contributes more vulgar fulfillments, until “Funeral Of Lies” overall concludes the record with excellent craftsmanship finesse. ATOMWINTER certainly outdone themselves with this one; as short as it was, it was definitely a great experience.
