Attica Rage - In Concert With The Mirror (CD)

Attica Rage
In Concert With The Mirror
by Ian Kaatz at 28 December 2005, 4:07 PM

Finally a band from Sonicbids that isn't Metalcore or something Un-Metal!! ATTICA RAGE is a very nice surprise compared to some of the other stuff I have been hearing. Get ready to get riffed back in time to a day when riffs still meant something and every singer didn't sound like NICKELBACK.

Formed by Richie, Big C, and Jonny in Scotland around 2003. The reset of the band fell into place after that. They have recorded two EPs and have plans to release their first full length some time soon. They have opened for SAXON and ARMORED SAINT in their native land.

Contradictions, I thought the vocals in the chorus were pretty weak and the guitar I thought sounded awfully generic compared to the first track Back To The Old School. The latter was a much more Traditional Metal styled song and much superior even though the double bass drum sounds a little soft. The chorus here has a nice sing-a-long line and fits perfect with the music; not to mention the really nice thick thrashy kind of riff that leads into the guitar solo. Walk Away is return to the form of the first track with a nice thick riff that sounds like a Zakk Wylde kind of riff. The instrumentation during the spoken word part of the song sounds nice and eerie like during ICED EARTH's Dante's Inferno. Don't Lie To Me slows things down a  bit. This could possibly be put directly into the Doom Metal genre, very slow for the majority of it and downtuned; sounds fucking great. The final track is where their influences are really on their sleeves so to speak. This song could have came right off any Ozzy album, which is certainly not an insult and should be taken as a sign of respect.

ATTICA RAGE could be a big band if they get their crap together and put a full length. They also need to do some touring outside of the UK, then let the Ozzy-era SABBATH come pouring in the venue doors.
