Barcode - Showdown (CD)

Barcode
Showdown
by Panagiotis Koutsompogeras at 10 April 2005, 1:33 PM

Denmark is famous for Niels Bohr, King Diamond, Lars Ulrich, Hans Christian Andersen and many other famous persons! Right now it's probably high time it became famous for its Hardcore scene, especially because of bands like Barcode. The band started out in 1995 and Showdown is Barcode's fifth full length album, and their first with Nuclear Blast Records; a huge opportunity for Barcode's music to be spread all over the world.
The album was recorded at Jailhouse Studios, produced by Dr. J and mixed/mastered by Tue Madsen. The cover's artwork has been designed by Adam Hansel of Dead Voltage Designs. You do not have to be a mega Hardcore fan in order to like this album! Its sheer energy will lift you to a higher plateau! There is a tight sound everywhere in this release and there is absolute absence of slow parts. Take for example me - not being a Hardcore fan in general - this album made a really good impression on me! Actually, this album will really surprise you when you play it for the very first time.
Even though the total length of this release is 34:28, its whole energy and aggressive attitude will make it seem to you that it only lasted for two minutes! These songs must also work out very nicely when played live.
Barcode's 1997 debut album Hard Jet Super Flash closed out with a cover version of Twisted Sister's We're Not Gonna Take It. The 1999 Beerserk record also paid tribute to another 80's Metal track, this time Judas Priest's Breaking The Law. This time they perform a cover of Accept's I am a Rebel which is really cool and definitely extra fucking heavy!
So, next time you visit Denmark don't forget to drink some genuine Carlsberg but also listen to some genuine Hardcore bands like Barcode.
- Album Highlights: Rise To Dignity, Showdown, No Lust For Life, Game Of The Lame,  Agressive Grim Filthy and I'm A Rebel.
