BaXnug – Ergonomic Rock

BaXnug
Ergonomic Rock
by Te Hao Boon at 13 September 2015, 11:39 AM

So part of the album's title is "Ergonomic". The definition of “Ergonomic” is, “An applied science concerned with designing and arranging things people use so that the people and things interact most efficiently and safely.” Well this record keeps slipping off my hand. Nothing about it makes me want to own it, let alone listen to it. Look at the ugly album cover. Bad fonts with a photo of one of the musician’s back on a plain white cover. But I thought to myself, maybe it's are about the substance; perhaps their songs would prove me wrong. Well I was not wrong: the music is just as bad, if not worse.

It starts out really badly and ends just as terribly. The whole album has very bad layering, sometimes it is too plain with only one track playing while on other time 2 or more tracks are overlapping each other and trying so hard to fight for attention. The vocals are terrible, lacking character and it is just painful to listen to past half a song. There is very little range in the singing and the mastering is horrid. All the musicians sound really nervous and new at their instruments, which is amplified by how pitchy everything sounded. I could not even finish the first song in one listen. The drumming was all over the place, the guitar and bass comes in in weird places. It sounds more like a horrid interpretation of how Free Jazz should sound like much more than a Rock band.

To sum it up, this is a messy album with no vision and terrible mastering. Cymbals sound like someone pissing. Everything in this album is sloppy, from the music to the singing, even the album art looks lazily put together. This is a mess and there’s a lot of cleaning up that has to be done before anyone should lay their hand on it.
