BEFORE FIRE is a band originally from Copenhagen, Denmark, but London based rock’n’roll band, with elements from the seventies till the new century rock. Founded in 2016, but only in 2018 the lineup became stable with the new frontman
Mathias Bang, and the 2019 has offered so far for them some support jobs for international acts and of course the release of the self-titled debut EP, which contains 5 songs, as well as the move to London in order to pursue their dreams.
The first four songs from the EP were released as singles throughout the year to keep the momentum going and to continually offer new music to their growing audience.
“Risk it” opens the EP in style, maybe the most seventies-like song of the five: I like the opening, and I definitely love the voice of
Mathias Bang, able to change from aggressive and slightly graspy to melodic during the chorus. What a way to open an EP!
“Dead eyes” pays a lot to the
WHITE STRIPES tradition, with the drumming-driven intro, and in my opinion is the only weak episode of the EP. Not a bad song, but, in my opinion, skippable, or, at least, not at the same level of the other four.
“Look my way” has a bluesy rock feeling and as well, while the the following
“Whos’s to blame” is still bluesy but on delicate side, with a mild guitar melody, good vocal performance of
Mathias Bang, as well as a remarkable solo by Konrad Liam.
“Are you Listening” is a great closer (and together with the opener
“Risk it” are the real highlights of this
“Before Fire”), a high tempo rocker that makes you have the impression that you have listened to a really good EP, full of energy, with a lot of influences (e.g.
RIVAL SONS), but still with a lot of personal touch. Well done
BEFORE FIRE!
