Beneath the Storm - Devil’s Village

Beneath the Storm
Devil’s Village

Hello Metal Temple. Today I bring you an interesting album called “Devil’s Village” by BENEATH THE STORM. This one-man Doom, Sludge Metal band was created only 2 years ago, and here they are giving us their third full-length album already. This is indeed an impressive feat, in my humble opinion, to release 3 albums in such a short time as a one-man band and still manages to do a great job doing it.

The “Devil’s Village” is a very dark album. It was created as a concept album with actual sound clips from the movie The City of the Dead (1960); this made it a very hard and heavy album to listen to. On songs like “Starting The Ritual” for example, the soundtrack of the movie in the song blends so perfectly with the rest of it, that you’d almost forget they were created at a 55 year interval.

On the musical side, the voice is guttural and very beastly; it totally fits the pounding rhythms and the slow doom guitar. On a personal note, it felt a bit repetitive on some tracks, but it also gave it this gloomy atmosphere that was present throughout the album. Shimon (Igor’s nickname) really gives a great performance on each of his instruments.

This 51 minute album makes you feel like you are actually in the movie. It is an experience for the senses.

I, very much, enjoyed the “Devil’s Village”. The feeling and the atmosphere of it really brings life to the music. It’s almost like you could hear its heart beating in the rhythms. This could easily be the soundtrack to your Halloween setup at home with themes like witches and sacrifice. I recommend you give it a try if you are into the Gloom Sludge Metal style or if you are simply into horror movies. It is definitely worth your time.
