Beyond Perception - The Final Descend (CD)

Beyond Perception
The Final Descend
by Yiannis Dafopoulos at 05 December 2008, 9:04 AM

I really love the fact that the Greek Stoner/Doom/Sludge scene has started getting out of its hole once again and bands are kicking ass out there. One of these bands is BEYOND PERCEPTION, a Greek Stoner Metal act with enough heaviness to turn your testicles to dust!

The Athenian metallers were formed in 2004. Back then, the line up featured a different vocalist (who was also a rhythm guitarist) and the band was not exactly what it is right now. They were more into the Progressive Rock/Metal scene. The band only had a demo release out, until former vocalist Paris Poukamisas left the band and BEYOND PERCEPTION spent several months searching for his replacement.

They found their man in Panos Karnaris. After preparing some material and playing some live shows, they thought it was about time for their debut album, which is being released through the UK label Casket Music. Kind of cool since many bands try to get away from the Greek music industry. Anyway, let's get to the main part of this review. BEYOND PERCEPTION - as any other Stoner band - is based on groove and heaviness, as well as catchy riffing that gets stuck in your head. They surely got the above mentioned elements, but they also have a singer with great vocal abilities. While listening to this album you will come across at least 3 different styles of singing by Panos.

Using DOWN and CROWBAR as their main influences, BEYOND PERCEPTION tip us with a pretty good debut full-length work that makes us have high hopes about this band. And I believe BEYOND PERCEPTION will offer some even better stuff in the future. Until then, let me listen to the album's hit some more times. Get a taste of the opening track Know Nothing Tender and you'll see that you won't be able to stop listening to it.
