Black Magician - The Pursuivant

Black Magician
The Pursuivant

"The Pursuivant" is the first track from this EP which is a mixture of Progressive Doom and Stoner Metal. With the very slow tempo to the song - as you'd expect from Doom Metal - this allows for a lot of textures to float through the music. From the vocals, to the guitar work, bass work and the odd chirp of the keys, this makes for an impressive opening track.

"Grene Knyght" begins with a soft acoustic guitar intro, and then moves into where the acoustic guitar trails with the keys accompanying it in the background. As the vocals enter, in an almost chanting manner. The drums enter without much flare and everything seems to click into place, as at about 2:15 the tambourine enters. It's a good tune, which finishes off with acoustic guitar thus ending it softly.

"Black Henbane" finishes off this EP in technical fashion. With the drums and bass interacting with one another whilst the keys get louder and louder, the guitars provide an excellent solo whilst the keys continue to hammer away. I feel like this is the strongest song on the EP.

So, the EP ends and I rather enjoyed it. In the near future, I'll keep my eyes peeled for what this band may release next.
