Black Paisley - Rambler Award winner

Black Paisley
by Neil Cook at 23 January 2021, 12:50 PM

BLACK PAISLEY from Stockholm, Sweden, have been around for a few years now, since 2014 to be precise.  “Rambler” is their 3rd LP, and first with a changed line-up, which now includes former ELECTRIC BOYS member Franco Santunione, they have produced a mighty fine album of catchy Classic Rock songs, you will find it hard to tap you feet to.

From the bluesy opening track “Damned” which has chorus which wouldn’t sound out of place in a VOLBEAT song, the infectious grooves hardly lets up. “Without Us” for example s built on a fat, meaty riff, and some splendid vocals, especially the chorus.  You will see a pattern building up here. “Higher Love”, has a really sexy riff going on and bags of melody.  The twin guitars and the soloing is worth the price of admission alone. “Save The Best” is one of those upbeat rockers the conjures up images summers from your youth, and cannot help to lift your spirits.  Catchy as all heck, and will be an earworm for years to come.

Timeless Child” comes across like a WHITESNAKE, or a COVERDALE/HUGHES era PURPLE tune, built on bravado and rhythm. “Take Me To The River” starts with a rolling pumping drum beat and sleek riffage, carrying on the Brit Rock feel of the previous song, more  of the SNAKES or INGLORIOUS vibe. “Falling” is a bluesy mid-paced “ballad”, with a chorus (yes the C word again) that is so catchy its almost illegal. And before we know it we’re at the last track “Give It Up”, a stomping rocker to finish the set off in satisfying style.

This is a superb set of infections, catch melodic rockers, and all done without a keyboard in sight, which based on the depth of their sound is impressive. My only complaint is only 8 songs!  Its over too quickly, we need more!
