Black Rain - It Begins

Black Rain
It Begins
by YngwieViking at 29 April 2013, 6:07 PM

Today my mission is to protect the juvenile innocent minds and the fragile auditory organs of the young teenage audience attracted by the pretty faces of Swan & co. Let's them know the truth, and let's put the warning against the dangerous burning platter known as "It Begins", because you have to be ready for the Glam & Sleaze assault named BLACK RAIN.

Recently signed to Columbia Records, BLACK RAIN's new album produced by legendary American studio-guru Jack Douglas (AEROSMITH / ALICE COOPER / SLASH / CHEAP TRICK) is planned for June 10th, it will be released in a lot of different format (a double CD, a ltd edition digipack with a bonus DVD, I also heard about a limited box set). It sounds amazingly powerful and could easily crush and reduce to dust all the latest releases by CRASHDÏET / TOXIC ROSE or SISTER, and even equaled the great return of HCSS with “C'mon Take On Me". The starved old & neo-Glam’s fans will be more than pleased; “It Begins” is purely about Rock N' Roll, pleasure & party: a Hair Metal climax.

What we have here is a much updated recording, both stylistically but also of course technically improved, the clever songs selection is indeed very representative of the matured songwriting skills of that band with some extra depth and even a spicy brand new duality.

Indeed, by mixing the classic anthemic stage sing-along hymns with some more ambitious and sophisticated musical pieces as “Re-evolution New Generation”, "Tell Me" or “Young Blood”, the French spandex bunch had reached a new level in their craft but obviously in the universal Metal hierarchy too.

Their new reworked style is still perfectly tagged by the 80’s golden era (W.A.S.P. / MÖTLEY CRÜE / SKID ROW) but however now displaying a richer edge, yet also deeply rooted in the classic Hard Rock genre with lots of sweat, guts and balls; while the whole is perfectly set by a thundering high-end audio mixing and finally all presented in a lush bosky art-work.

The high pitched lead-vocals are impressive and very characteristic but happily not one-dimensional anymore, and now possibly that it could have turned into their strongest asset and their more convincing identity's winning point. BLACK RAIN have certainly dramatically break new ground and with such a great disc as deadly weapon under their bullet belt, they are on the right (war)path for the world Sleaze domination…Buy and help to Kill the Ozone layer.
