Black League, The - Ichor (CD)

Black League, The
Ichor
by Stathis Giannakopoulos at 10 January 2001, 10:41 PM

Do you remember the former bass player/singer of the great band called Sentenced? Yes, I am talking about Taneli Jarva! After his departure from Sentenced, he stayed away from the music scene for a while. In 1997 he met an old pal, Sir K. Luttinen. They decided to co-operate in a project and after some months of rehearsals The Black League was born!
It seems to me that what the guys had in mind to create, was something different and something darker. They achieved both ways. This CD is for all the people who love Dark fuckin' Heavy Metal! The guitars are really massive and dark riffs invade in your ears without warning! It's been quite a long time since I last heard such a great ''Dark'' sound from a band. The vocals now, from Taneli, can be described as brilliant!! Dark, raging, full of 'hatred' and powerful! Yes, of course he will remind you of Sentenced sometimes but that's not fuckin' bad at all! The drumming is really great too, and the production of the drums is really strange and… guess… fuckin' dark! The great guitar work is done by Maike Valanne (ex-Faff-Bey, Terveet Kadet) and Alex Ranta. I have to admit that they play very tight together and the guitars fuckin' rule!
In a few words imagine elements of Amok era mixed with Hard Rock and a dark atmosphere. Add the amazing vocals of the guy who we all enjoyed in songs like Nepenthe (an ultimate hymn) and you have a clue about what you'll hear from this band. The production is amazing and as clear as it gets!
You liked Sentenced's Amok era? Then you're gona love Ichor, that's a fact. One of the best albums for 2000 without second thought.
