The debut EP of Swiss based four-piece Black Metal band BLAKK OLD BLOOD may only contain five songs, but they would’ve needed even less to completely blow you away. Even from the beginning of the first song, “Disaster Of The Worlds”, all through the end of “Might Of Wrath”, you can almost see the long haired skeletons head banging in a creepy graveyard at midnight, while the band is playing on a stage of tombs and caskets.
They say themselves that the lyrics are about wrath, lust, pride, gluttony, envy, greed and sloth, also known as the seven sins. You’ll have to take their word for it, because you won’t understand a single syllable Deus Mortuus is grunting. His voice is pretty amazing though, so don’t let this fact stop you from listening to this fantastic debut EP.
Goathammers’ guitar will keep you longing and begging for more tasty riffs as the album goes on. He’s being supported by pretty heavy and penetrating double pedaled bass drums by Mentor and some skilled bass playing by Korvus, who form a very solid backbone of this heavy rocking up and coming Black Metal band.
By any means, make sure you’re home alone and do not have anything else to concentrate on when you play this EP for the first time. It would behoove you to give it your fullest attention, because your brains will scramble and smack against the wall when you listen to it properly, and I do not mean this in a bad way. Especially “Burning Churches”, which you will see happening in front of your eyes if you care to look at the song title before you play it, will send shivers down your spine, with Deus Mortuus screaming like his life depends on it. All in all it makes for a great debut album from this Swiss Black Metal band, and I think we haven’t heard the last of them.
