The town of Sergno, Italy is going to be receiving a brutal wake up call from Metalcore outfit BLAST MY REQUIEM with their debut EP “Ardere”.
The album gets off to a promising start with instrumental “They’re Working On You” that, as a listener, invited me in pretty much straight away; this makes it a very successful start to the album. As the album progressed however it was very evident that this band have potential but the music doesn’t fill me up with excitement.
There are some brilliant aspects within the album; these include brilliant riffs and solos within the guitar work, they also provide a great melodic relief to the aggressive vocal work and they place the tunes together very nicely. Examples of this can be heard in tracks such as “These Wounds” and “A Shallow Place”.
The instrumental for “Brightest Lights (Come With The Storm)” also perked my interest as it provides the listener with a little break from the aggression and distortion.
However even after a second listen I’m still not entirely convinced, as to me the songs seem very mediocre and average. I think for fans of Metalcore it could spark interest and I believe BLAST MY REQUIEM have potential to make it big in Metalcore but it just wasn’t working for me.
