Bombus - Repeat until Death

Bombus
Repeat until Death
by Dave "That Metal Guy" Campbell at 20 August 2016, 7:33 AM

BOMBUS is a Heavy Metal/Hard Rock band from Gothenburg, Sweden. Formed in 2008, this is the band’s third full-length album, and contains nine tracks. “Eyes on the Price” is the opening song. The sound is pretty straightforward Hard Rock, with an easy going riff and harsh vocals that are harmonized for more of a meaty result. “Rust” is a piece with a tight, powerful structure that is more about consistency than exploration. Sometimes I get a MERCENARY vibe from this song. “Deadweight” picks up the pace a little and with some additional notes in the main riff. It’s very stalwart overall; definitive and easy to grasp. It’s not a song to overthink but the harmonies work well. “Horde of Flies” is another song that is just bossy but easy on the ears. You know when you talk about a song that “just rocks” but you really don’t offer much of an explanation as to why, but you can just hear it? That is “Horde of Flies.”

“Repeat until Death” is the title track, and definitely more comprehensive in terms of what is presented. There is a raucous energy and the flow from verse to chorus, to bridge and back is pretty seamless. “Shake them for what they’re worth” has a bit of a different opening with those dancing acoustic guitar notes, and ultimately a slower, more deliberate pace from there. It’s also one of more dark songs on the album. “You the Man” sounds like a fun title for a song, and I think the sound would support that. It’s not celebratory however but rather a tongue-in-cheek poke at a mate. “Get your Cuts” closes the album. It’s a slower song focusing mostly on the vocals, as there is very little instrumentation in the verses. It also has an ominous feeling of things to come. Overall there isn’t a lot I can really say as it is very much a straightforward Hard Rock sound with little variation. It’s the kind of album that stays steady throughout. It’s not bad music by any stretch, but just not a lot to get excited about.
