Broken Hope - Mutilated and Assimilated Award winner

Broken Hope
Mutilated and Assimilated
by JOGANEGAR at 07 July 2017, 8:11 AM

Whether you like extreme music or not, you have to acknowledge the difficulty and mastery it takes to perform at pace and accuracy worthy of the most thoroughly trained classical musicians depicted by the experienced members of BROKEN HOPE. Art is usually referred to as the reminder of everything that is beautiful, sublime and warm in this world, everything that fills your heart with joy and that tender feeling that is often referred to as getting butterflies; but if we look at some of the most representatives pieces of art in history, like Picasso’s “Guernica”, art can also remind us of just how messed up things can get sometimes.  “Mutilated and Assimilated” is a concept far too gruesome to even conceive by a mere mortal like yours truly, but looking at the cover of this album kind of made it more intelligible for me.

This album is an abstract that represents just how great it is to be alive in a the world today with all this universe of bands sprouting an even more multiple set of galaxies within each subgenre, based on the foremost principle of respect and just the foundation of a common root that comes from a set of notes arranged and played together in a guitar a bass and a drum kit along with all the various moods and specially the various tastes of each and all the members of the worldwide metal community created out of inconformity and rebelliousness and specially a not taking anything that the general Status Quo tells you to believe for granted attitude; Well what can embody this principle more than extreme metal within all its boundaries and beyond. Even within the undesirable music for the general population, there is also a more undesirable branch that even some usual metal fans considered too much for their taste.

There seems to be a sudden uprising of alleged “music” experts who seem to ditch the most extreme branches of metal, to privilege the most melodic or pleasant constructs of it, do I have to quote The Guernica once more? The atmosphere created by songs such as “Swamped -in Gore Hog” can achieve such low frequencies that the cells in my body were initially brought to a low and fear spread throughout my whole nervous system, having to appeal to the more rational side of my brain to regain composure once more, but this band and its music have always represented the high standard when it comes to the mastery of their craft. An ever underrated band if you should ask me, BROKEN HOPE stand the test of time, and besides obtaining overwhelming artwork on their cover depict a maturity rarely obtained by performers in this very difficult area of Metal this band is just a step from becoming legendary.
