Brunhilde - Choir Boy

Brunhilde
Choir Boy

As MOTÖRHEAD is gone to rest in glory for all its deeds, it seems that its absence unleashed an invasion of Metal Punk bands. The new generations are creating very good releases, indeed, leaving the cloning paradigm to the past. And BRUNHILDE from Germany shows a very good work on “Choir Boy”. The musical work of the band is based on a melodic and nasty for of Metal Punk, but using a modern outfit and nasty touches from modern names as SYSTEM OF A DOWN. Obviously it still needs to mature a bit more, but the savage energy and hooking melodies, created under a simple and strong technical work, is really amazing, charming the listeners from the very early instants of music.

One very good point is that the band uses a modern and defined sound quality. The nasty approach of the music resides in the songs, not on the sonority. It’s really sharp and aggressive, but created to be clean, in a way that everyone can understand what is being played. All the four songs of this release are very good. “Choir Boy” sounds as nasty and aggressive due its nasty guitar riffs, but with some modern influences on the singing. “When You Were Born (I Was Already Dead)” has a tender beginning, showing the vocals versatility, but soon the song explodes on a set of aggressive melodies that are easy to be swallowed by the ears, with another very good work from the vocals. A tender and introspective ballad is what “It’s All Lies”, with a very good ‘noir’ ambiance, focused on vocals and pianos. And a new version for “Golddigger” (that shows an intense and groove rhythmic work) is where once more the modern influences arise.

“Choir Boy” is really a very good and charming release, but BRUNHILDE has talent enough to create something even better. It means that a future album would be a great experience.
