Back on the warpath, rockin' and rollin', being bad to the bone, Tuscany's tyrants of the warrior's creed –
BUD TRIBE – return for another round. Now signed to Italy's own
Jolly Roger Records, they travel down the road together, living for and in remembrance of Metal. This band play Traditional Metal, and show their love for those influential 70s acts who paved the way. Fans of
BLACK ROSE,
RED ROSE,
SINNER, newer
ARTHEMIS, will be intrigued. Many of the musicians are seasoned veterans.
Daniele "Bud" Ancillotti plays with
STRANA OFFICINA, and both
Leo and
Dario have served time in
“Hoka Hey” favorites
SABOTAGE who feature
DOMINE's own
Morby on vocals.
I assume they named themselves after
Dan's nom de guerre, as he shares the other band
ANCILLOTTI with his brother
Sandro and his own son
Brian. With this album,
Dan definitely tries to sound like
Phil Lynott, showing his love for
THIN LIZZY. The songs are well-constructed, with some interesting lyrics, and a sonic level of musical proficiency. The title track gets things rolling nicely, as you prepare to meet
“Mr. (Luis) Cypher”.
“Dead Man Walking” has a strong
PRETTY MAIDS vibe, while “
Dragon Lady” feels more like
ROUGH SILK.
“Camelot” is a fun and interesting take on the legend, while
“Voices (In The Night)” has a very vibrant
DEEP PURPLE mass appeal.
“Metal Show” timing is good, but it could be heavier, even if certain parts have a steadfast and pulsating pace, affected and balanced by some suggestive soloing. Also,
“Bud's” thick accent allows for him to sing more in his native Italian tongue. Damn if
“La Luna…” does not sound like the opening of
ZEP's “Stairway”! There are two quality bonus tracks included, too, thereby making this a worthy effort. Overall, I am now totally enamored by the music, and I probably would not invest in this, or add the CD to my collection. I do respect the musicians, and I would recommend at least giving this a fair listen, given their inherited legacy.
