Celestial Wizard - Winds of The Cosmos Award winner

Winds of The Cosmos

CELESTIAL WIZARD comes from Denver, Colorado, USA and that fact really surprised me. Because I was expecting them to be Finnish, due to the sort of Metal they play. They are a mix between Power Metal and Melodic Death Metal. Not only that, they have succeeded in making a record that has me jumping for joy. In the information that came with “Winds of The Cosmos” the bands mentioned are quite impressive: DARK TRANQILLITY, FIREWIND, AMON AMARTH, ARCH ENEMY, GALAKTICON. Nice, but not exactly accurate, as they have forgotten the two most obvious ones: CHIILDREN OF BODOM (COB) before they became too massive in sound and body, plus IN FLAMES during their “Jester Race”, Colony” and “Clayman” era.

Nick Daggers is a very good singer that has more ability than you realise when you start listening. I actually thought there were more people singing, but there aren’t. He easily goes from clean vocals to COB like screams/grunts and back. The former of the two are already quite good, but truth be told, he is most impressive when he uses the latter. That one actually enhances the intensity of the music. Because that is one trait that can’t be denied on “Winds of The Cosmos”, CELESTIAL WIZARD plays intense music. But if you look at the two bands I mentioned, you shouldn’t be surprised. The fast rhythms, the impressive guitar work, the very subtle but definite way the keyboards are incorporated, plus the vocals are very much influenced by COB, whilst the arrangement of the tunes plus the softer, or if you wish more melodic,  parts are very much as IN FLAMES used to construct them in the early nineties.

On top of that the quality of the songs is way above average. It did take me a number of listens before I realised how good all of it actually is. But now I am converted, I just can’t get enough of “Winds of The Cosmos”. So much in fact, that I have found their first album “A Sinister Awakening” from 2018, which will soon be blasting its contents into my ears through my Sennheiser headphones. But that will only happen after I finish this review, as I wish to write it as pure as snow. I feel I have done what I wanted to do, because I am giving very high praise to CELESTIAL WIZARD and their second album “Winds of The Cosmos”. It’s been a while since I heard this music style come out so strong.
