Chevalier - A Call to Arms

Chevalier
A Call to Arms
by Tatianny Ruiz at 06 May 2018, 5:14 AM

The year 2017 really was a great year in terms of releases within the metal and if you reader accompanied some of the Finnish music scene then surely you may have found this album between the releases. We are talking about the CHEVALIER band and their album "A Call to Arms". If 2018 continues to burn in releases and new bands there is still a good reason to return to a previous year's release and the reason is the excellent work of this edition of 12 "vinyl of the EP of 2017, we are talking remastered sound and with art that really values this work. The remastered elements essentially raise the recorded demo from the basement to a level appropriate enough to hear the fantastic guitar work on display. Nothing is lost in level balancing and the work of amplified guitar and bass adds to an even more engaging journey in thirty-three of today's best Speed metal minutes.

What makes this album really interesting is the fact that it sounds as heavy and speedy Old School as much of what we can hear normally. The vocal lines of Emma Grönqvist are powerful and of a very significant patency, at times like in "The Sorcerer" I have the brief feel of those jovial male vocals of the 80's, and this probably brings a unique personality in times of such altered vocals. Tommi and Mikko's guitar duo sounds "fiery" good and fast while bassist Sebastian and drummer Joel complement the baselines for an epic speed metal play. Listening to this album not only brings a great sense of nostalgia but also a smile on the face of every lover of fast and cutting lines of metal, and this added to a crisp flavor of influences such as Belgium's ACID.

It is necessary to mention that in an overcrowded scene where even the bands of heavy metal with women in the vocal does not bring any novelty the CHEVALIER stands out of the rest by his high level of talent and ability. Obviously, it is not enough simply to have a beautiful woman in front of a microphone, and note how much I have already mentioned this factor. You need someone who can really sing and play a position of firmness within this metallic scenario. And of course if you can find a vocalist with class, style and substance then you'll be on the right track for a true class representative for women in metal. When it comes to this band from Helsinki and Emma Grönqvist we are talking about a right choice. Emma has a great voice that is full of power and when she hits some of the highest notes she certainly puts many of the men's style vocalists in the hide, Gloria! She leads a talented group of musicians who happen to be bassist Sebastian Bergman of STEEL MACHINE.

Undoubtedly a sure album in the head of any metalhead.
