Children Of Bodom - Follow The Reaper (CD)

Children Of Bodom
Follow The Reaper
by Yiannis Mitsakos at 01 January 2001, 10:32 PM

Soon after their two successful albums, Something Wild and Hatebreeder, they come with a third album, with their distinctive style. What they play is something that's called melodic Death by most, but only the vocals actually remind this style. They are more melodic than In Flames or Dark Tranquility and they have a powerful music, and not so aggressive, so they actually they come closer to a heavy/power sound with brutal vocals.

Surely Children Of Bodom haven't changed much, in terms of sound, from Hatebreeder, but Follow The Reaper clearly shows it's superiority. The songs are better structured and sound more mature. Just listen to Children Of Decadance for example, and you'll see what I mean! Also the band seem to be more united. The production sounds crystal clear (as most do nowadays) and emphasizes on the power of the sound mostly.

Follow The Reaper in a few words, is definitely the best album Children Of Bodom have released so far, and promises lot's of good times to the audience. With action-packed songs like Children Of Decadence, Hate Me, Bodom After Midnight (this song reminds me a LOT of The Rock Movie Soundtrack) and Follow The Reaper or Kissing The Shadows… it can really blow you away. Also the album will have as a bonus track a (simply good-nothing to rave about) cover version of W.A.S.P.'s Hellion.
