Cultural Warfare - Future Kill

Cultural Warfare
Future Kill
by JF "Thrashing Assault" Briard at 15 February 2017, 3:04 PM

Okland native band CULTURAL WARFARE has a very distinctive Bay Area style Thrash sound. The members of the band are here to take to take the Thrash scene by storm… and they could very well succeed in their attempt!

The EP's introduction is composed of a Tibetan-like chanting in "Defy the Blade". If I had to compare Jacques Serrano's vocal parts, I could say right away they are eerily familiar of METALLICA's James Hetfield, TESTAMENT's Chuck Billy and OVERKILL's Bobby Blitz Ellsworth. A combination of those 3 vocalists mainly, which is pretty fantastic, if you ask me! "Ratten Krieg" is probably the safest song here, with conventional (yet still catchy) guitar riffs and melodies. A nice double bass drum part and an aggressive high pitched tapping guitar solo are the main features in "The Damned", alongside some high pitched screeching vocals. Title song "Future Kill" is the most aggressive piece of music here, being the heaviest of the release I think. The main melody is reasonably catchy. "Our Dead Earth" is a dark and very short (unfortunately) instrumental ballad, which seems to be a bit inspired by the sound the ballads from "The New World Order" from TESTAMENT. Very mysterious outro, I actually really like this kind of suspense!

Not bad at all; I quite enjoyed this EP. It isn't the most original piece of music ever conceived, but what is there is very solid. It could also potentially be expanded, complexity-wise. There is a little something missing overall to reach true greatness I'd say… and I can't pinpoint what exactly. If they can however polish their sounds and adds a little more oomph in the final release (or future ones), they could surely well become one of the strongest contemporary Thrash act!
