Cynical Existence – Rebirth

Cynical Existence
Rebirth
by Brad Pfundheller at 27 November 2019, 10:33 PM

Coming all the way from Gothenburg, Sweden, CYNICAL EXISTENCE is here with the release of their album “Rebirth”. Formed in 2011, and after having extended play releases over the past five years the band is excited to release a full length album to what they call “a new sound” of the band courtesy of Advoxya Records.

The first song on the album is “No Way Out” and right away you can tell these guys are either Industrial Metal or have roots from it. Power chords, guitar chugs, pinch harmonics it’s all there. “Nightmare” starts off with some synths sounds and an audio sample that builds up your suspense to the verse. The synth over the verse made it hard to hear the vocalist all the way. It could just be an audio mixing error though. “Killing You” begins slow as well but the vocals seem to open up and have more range on this one. It wasn’t too bad. “Crawling Chaos” guitar riff sounds like a rip off of an AC/DC song. If you listen to it, you’ll know what one I am talking about.

“As We Fall” begins a lot like the songs preceding it. A slow intro, then the verse kicks in. Nothing else really stands out to me on this song. “The End Times” begins with a build-up, and the chorus has some pretty cool overlaying vocals. “Cursed” has some guitar pulses throughout that flow really well with the rest of the instruments. The final song “We Bleed” has some parts that slow down, and then speed back up and some parts that really bring out the synthesizer. It’s an appropriate song to end the album with.

Overall, this band has a lot of talent but I wasn’t very impressed with “Rebirth”. I felt like a lot of songs became repetitive and there wasn’t too much creativity in the songs. But with all that said I feel like the average metal head can get down with this. It would just take a certain group.
