Deathblow
Insect Politics

I need to start this review by saying wow! What have I been missing! After listening to this album, I had to go check the entire discography of this guys, because they kick ass. I wonder why their name isn’t bigger already? Hailing from Utah, DEATHBLOW pays real tribute to their name with this thrash metal release.

This second full-length is charged with energy and great riffing, ferocious vocals and fine-tuned melodies, making it a very finely elaborated release. It would be unfair just to say this is just another Thrash band. This is an insane mix of everything you most likely slam-danced to if you enjoyed the Thrash revolution of the 80’s and early 90’s with bands such as EXODUS, FORBIDDEN, ANTHRAX and ATROPHY to name just a few.

The opening track “Brain Bugs” starts up with a nice melodic sort of intro, the production and the mixing are very nice and allows you to clearly identify every note from every instrument, I specially enjoyed the sound of the bass lines. Vocals are perfectly fit for the style and definitely give the band the pure identity of Thrash Metal.

“Accelerated Decrepitude” follows the opening track with a direct assault of intense riffing that will get your head spinning right away. Powerful, yet well-balanced with melodies and solos that give their music a lot of color.

“Insect Politics” the title track, is pure mosh pit material, pounding drums, strong bass lines and those great melodic riffs that somehow are a trademark of the band will keep you jumping all over,

“Through the Eyes of Delusion” as every other track into this album, brought me back to my teens and so many great memories of how much the sound of Thrash Metal influenced my life, all those bands I would listen to back then passed through my mind. It is not too hard to realize that thrash music does not have much more space for innovation before turning into something new or acquiring a different name to the style, so it is no surprise all those memories came to my mind. All you can do is do it the way it should be done, and that is exactly what you get. This is how you Thrash.

“Agent Zero” is my favorite track on this record, very nicely elaborated song with great musicianship, I like the guitar work on this one a lot. Both the riffing and the melodies are superb with some radical twists.

“Behind Closed Doors” is the closing track, a violent deployment of crude screams and power chords that will make your blood boil and your eardrums explode. Play it loud.

This Utah thrashers are here to blow your head off with “Insect Politics”. From the amazing cover art to the ferocious metal attack, this is one record every thrasher should check out, 100% proof!!! It’s like there was this awesome band in the 80’s you never heard about and you realize just now, yet their sound is fresh and rips!
