Deathhammer – Electric Warfare

Deathhammer
Electric Warfare

DEATHHAMMER – “Electric Warfare”, is this well established, Norwegian Black Thrash Metal bands, fifth album. Formed in 2005, this two man band formed of vocalist, Cato Stormoen and Sergeant Salsten wrote all of the lyrics and are the core of what you hear. The first thing that I noticed when I hit play were hints of Exodus in his trademark shriek of the vocals. Intrigued, I watched some recent YouTube highlights and interviews and found 110% real metal dudes, with a little bit of a SPINAL TAP thrown in. These guys are living what the preach and come across as fun, intelligent, likable guys in the interviews I saw, not necessarily what their “stage characters” portray at first glance. I love the live vibe and wish they were a little closer the U.S. to experience it myself.

“Crushing The Pearly Gates”, track two on this one, is intense, but all over the place to me at the beginning. It does gets tighter when it slows down at the end, flowing back into an enjoyable classic thrash rhythm, then closing with galloping explosion's and screams. We go on to “Return To Sodom-Soldiers Of Dar”, it starts out great, with the drum intro and finger tapping guitar solo setting you up for the groove, picking up speed along the way. My favorite song so far, fight… kill… blood… are some of the fitting lyrics in this potential cult classic.

“Rapid Violence”, gets going and takes you on a downhill crash course. It gets faster and again, it leads you all over the place in this hard core piece, but eventually takes you to another one of my favorites, “Thirst For Ritual”. Starting out solid, it turns out to be one of the better songs by staying the course. “Thrown To The Abyss”, complements his unique screaming. I get it, but some of his trademark screams at the beginning of the album were a bit much for me, this song came together just right in that category on this one.

“Violent Age Of Bloodshed”, wraps it up. They may have saved the best for last. A heavy, hard-hitting song, I would love to see what kind of mosh pit it would create, I enjoyed a great visualization while listening! It has a lot of live potential, a long one, but one that I am not wanting to end. Hail the Vikings of Black Thrash, Death Hammer!
