Even though what we have to deal with here is nothing more than pure Death Metal from Germany I was kind of confused at first since the only thing this band’s name reminds me of is the song from MESHUGGAH. I guess that has nothing to do with it. Anyway…
What do we have here? DEBT OF NATURE is a German Death Metal band with some Thrash Metal touches that add a bit of groove to their brutal sound. Their sound is kind of diverse since “Crush, Kill And Burn” contains bestial blasts, catchy Thrash Metal riffs as well as BOLT THROWER-like groovy Death Metal. The sextet seems to be drawing influences from classic bands like CANNIBAL CORPSE, AUTOPSY, NAPALM DEATH etc, but is definitely trying to incorporate its own style in its music. But why was I tired while listening to the album?
It may be because DEBT OF NATURE lack of that “something” that would make them differ from the rest of the Death Metal bands out there. To avoid any confusion, I am not saying that the Germans suck or something, they just need something extra to earn the attention of the Death Metal listener since nowadays there are many great Death Metal albums coming out and the competition just keeps getting harder. Something else that kind of holds the bands back is the album’s sound, which isn’t as good as it should be. I am sorry but the “mixed & mastered by Andy Classen” thingie can’t change my opinion…
