Disminded - The Vision Award winner

The Vision
by "Metal Mark" Garcia at 29 March 2023, 5:41 AM

There’s no magic or easier way to play any Old School Metal you can think of, and the same words are true: to do so demands of the musicians to breathe new life on these genres, or in other words, to promote ‘updates’ to make things different from what was already done. And to Death Metal such work becomes harder, because the genre evolved a lot, and to take what was done during the late years of the 80’s and early years of the 90’s and make something new can sound as a blasphemy to many fans. But the German quartet DISMINDED is courageous enough to take such trial, and the result, as heard on “The Vision”, is very good. Their musical work is based on a formula of Old School Death Metal that’s plenty of Thrash Metal and Crossover touches, with some groove (as heard clearly on “Judgement Day”) and aggressive to the bones, but with some melodic care (again, it can be heard clearly on “Judgement Day”).

But there’s something inside the music’s core that is personal, belongs solely to the quartet, because this album sounds alive, actual, full of energy and aggressive in a way that is impossible to resist if you’re a Death Metal fan.  Tim Schlichting worked on the recording sessions, and the mixing and mastering were delivered to the hands of the master Harris Johns (if you don’t know this name, he signs works with acts as ASSASSIN, CORONER, AMON AMARTH, ENTHRONED, HELLOWEEN, GRAVE DIGGER, RATOS DE PORÃO, HOLY MOSES, SAXON, IMMOLATION, KREATOR, SEPULTURA, SODOM, THERION, VOIVOD, and many others). All to create a sound quality for “The Vision” that can have an Old School feeling, but defined and brutal as well.

As the band’s third album, “The Vision” carries a lot of responsibility. But for the fans, its value is clear on songs as “Nightmare” (a brutal and oppressive song with tons of weight flowing from the rhythmic shifts created by bass guitar and drums), “Unleash Hate” (a fast and brutal song with many shifts on the rhythms, and where the Death/Thrash Metal side of their music is clear on the guitar riffs and arrangements), “Judgement Day” (groove, melodies and excellent instrumental arrangements are creating the right sheath for the guttural  vocals to be expressed in a great way), “Final Prayer” (a rhythmic shrapnel can be heard, but always in a way that enables the energy of the song to create moshpits), “World War 3” (what a lovely set of subjective melodies that are heard gluing things together, especially on the guitar arrangements), and on the lovecraftian feeling of “New God Rising” (great melodic and groovy guitar leads).

DISMINDED really did a great work on “The Vision”, so it’s not a sin to say that the German Death Metal scene is on the rise again! And it’s great!
