One thing that reviewing albums has done for me, is forced me to open my mind up to different sub- genres of metal. My palate has always been more drawn towards Thrash Metal and 90’s Groove Metal. I don’t think I need to mention any names; we all know who the leaders of those genres are. With reviewing albums, I’m not always going to get to review Thrash, and further more, I need to be objective and review the music based on the talent and creativeness behind it. I have become a fan of other genres because of this. Reviewing albums has made my music taste much more diverse and excepting. The decision to start writing was one of the best things I could have done, but enough about me, we have a Death Metal album to review! Today we put pen to paper for
ECTOPLASMA.
ECTOPLASMA has been keeping the scene fresh with release after release of their old school style Death Metal brutality. Their latest release,
“white – Eyed Trance" is the third installment of their onslaught against humanity. A merciless campaign of crushing tone. From the first verse of
“Eviscerated In The Howling Winds" to the outro of
“Souls Of Sacrifice”,
Giannis Grim barks angry, deep, guttural vocals, all the while laying down smooth Bass lines that set the foundation for the songs while
George Wolf and
Dion K. Alastor set the tone and give them color.
Each song on the album is a well orchestrated full frontal assault, coordinated between bass, relentless drums guitars flanking from left and right. The album is steeped with talent and all songs display it well, but if I must pick a song that stands out the most to me it would have to be the final track –
“Souls Of Sacrifice”. Whether it be the slower, almost groove- like tempo with pulverizing palm muted riffs laid over it with precise execution, or bellowing vocals that will call forth darkest of demons, this song just grabs a hold of me and doesn’t let go.
ECTOPLASMA has bestowed upon the masses an incredible gift and Death Metal enthusiasts worldwide will enjoy this work of brutal art. Well done
ECTOPLASMA, I look forward to see more from you and wish you all the best in the future.
