Eden's Curse - Eden's Curse (CD)

Eden's Curse
Eden's Curse
by Grigoris Chronis at 05 August 2007, 2:44 PM

This one, now, is a normal band or a 'project'? Choose case A and you have some wonderful music coming off a highly hopeful band. By voting for case B, you try to think it all over again: why don't musicians try to give 100% of their skills in an actual band instead of participating in various 'one off' collaborations here and there?
I hope the players in EDEN'S CURSE, provided the debut(?) album will fulfill their expectations, will take the best 'fitting' decision.
The cover artwork did not prepare my mood for the stuff I had the chance to hear 'inside'. The band's name of course ties with the picture, still there's limited of chance someone will succeed in 'reading' between the cover. Anyway, the band is fresh, featuring members of CRY HAVOC (Paul Logue), STEVE GRIMMET BAND/KILLERS (Pete Newdeck), DEMON DRIVE/ATTACK (Thorsten Koehne) and - of course - ROUGH SILK/AXEL RUDI PELL (Ferdy Doernberg). Michael Eden is the only member with an 'obscure' CV (Net-wise) but has two benefits in advance: his surname is 'working' for the band plus he has a unique charisma in performing melodic songs. He is too melodic, on second thought. High-pitched, crystal clear and sweet as tons of candy. The man's an excellent singer!
So, five people from three different countries. Hmmm…The album is full of German Hard Rock guitars, in the vein of BONFIRE, PINK CREAM 69, KRAAFT, FAIR WARNING, EVIDENCE ONE and JADED HEART. PC69's Dennis Ward has done the production for this album (too), so you know what to expect in general. There are countless leads, dual solos, harmonic parts and an overall feeling EDEN'S CURSE is all about melody. In a set of equally good but 'similar' songs, I don't know if (and how) bored will the listener feel after the album's been playing for e.g. three times in a row. Not to be misunderstood, the songwriting is first-class (DOMAIN/EVIDENCE ONE man Carsten Schulz has co-written most of the songs here), plus Michael's vocals are (to expand the pre-mentioned) fabulous, adding an AOR 'touch' in many of the album's parts, whereas some other parts - supported by a more dynamic guitar riffing - will also appeal to DOKKEN and PRETTY MAIDS fans (I'd expect the rhythm section to sound a little more 'vivid', though)…
I did not come up with a specific favourite tune (well, except maybe After The Love Is Gone that kicks major ass!); the album features twelve good+ songs of melodic Rock performed with enough of personal style. Eden's Curse is a very good proposal for your relative needs; I only hope you won't feel fed up a week after you've bought the album.
P.S.: I remember We All Die Young coming off the Rock Star OST.
