Emir Hot - Sevdah Metal (CD)

Emir Hot
Sevdah Metal
by Yiannis Zervos at 01 July 2008, 3:59 PM

Emir Hot is another virtuoso guitar player from Bosnia that decided to leave the former post-war Yugoslavia region and chase his musical dream in the West. After his graduation from the London Guitar Institute, Emir recorded his first solo album Sevdah Metal.

The album represents something fresh for the Metal realm with its blend of melodic, progressive and neo-classical Metal styling mixed with traditional Eastern Balkan music with strong influence taken from the Sevdah style of Bosnian music (a Bosnian style of blues) to create the Emir Hot sound. The main mood of Sevdah Metal is mainly about Heavy Metal as we know it. Maybe it reaches the Power Metal shores of HELLOWEEN, but Emir's mentality is strongly influenced by Malmsteen's playing and songwriting point of view. The thing that Emir Hot adds to the whole Metal-speed-guitar-playing is the Eastern-scaled riffs he uses. The Balkan musical culture is really rich indeed but it may sound a bit strange to the Western fan's ear (all we have to blame is the damn churches division).

The main reason that Emir's first album sounds incredibly mature is because he has the valuable help from John West (ARTENSION, ex-ROYAL HUNT), who adds his amazing vocal abilities and power along with Mike Terrana (MASTERPLAN, Tarja Turunen, Yngwie Malmsteen, Tony McAlpine, Axel Rudi Pell, GAMMA RAY, RAGE, Steve Lukather) who contributes his extreme maturity and heavy sound in Sevdah Metal.

Sevdah Metal is an album born out of great adversity and is heavily influenced by this. From Emir's troubles in his beloved former homeland Bosnia (Emir now resides in the UK) to the state of the world today, all have made a mark on the lyrics and music. Yet within the ten tracks there is a light of hope, of perseverance prevailing perhaps best exemplified on the track Stand And Fight, an emotionally rich Metal ballad with impassioned vocals and guitar solo, making it a natural contender for radio single.

Emir Hot is making his breakthrough into the great Rock guitar players of our time and to the Heavy Metal music in general. His first step is really strong. I think that we will hear more from Emir Hot in the future.
