Everflow - Abandoned

by Lior "Steinmetal" Stein at 20 November 2011, 5:05 PM

Sometimes it is hard on not picturing what is blasting through your ears. Although that there are folks that choose to think about their ongoing days and future things to worry about, when a song hits deep it is difficult saying no to it. However I am not the utmost devotee of progressive music, as I prefer the thundering force of straightforward tradition, I had the pleasure to familiarize myself with an extremely talented band from Greece. This band is EVERFLOW and their debut album, "Abandoned", released via their local Steel Gallery Records, forged its own theater within my mind.

I don't know why but when I thought this through I came to notice that Progressive Metal bands, at least some of them, have the ability to shape a new unique reality within listeners while their albums are playing. I am not writing this from only my personal experience, believe me I asked around. Maybe it’s because of the multilayered music that was crafted after some serious thought or emotional vocals or the lyrical conceptions. There isn't a definite answer for that as every listener has his or her perspectives.  At least from where I and sitting, I think that "Abandoned", which I think is special, is very close to other classic released made by famous bands as DREAM THEATER, SYMPHONY X, STEEL PROPHET and QUEENSRYCHE, thus profiling it as a good one.

While prying the album I noticed the amazing stature of the mid and high pitched vocals that were placed with ease among the highly harmonic music. Furthermore, I also came to admire the guitar work by the two guitarists, the fellow Dimitrises that played some high outlines of lead and assorted rhythm sections. The rhythm segment on its own was cleverly made but not overly technical due to the band's possible wish for catchy exits on the choruses. Those same musical elements on "Abandoned" set the score with startling hits that told some great inner stories like "A Piece To Destroy", "Genius?”, "My Disaster" and I can't let of the powerful instrumental intro of "Cry".

EVERFLOW played an exciting kind of melodic Power Metal that was set as a show of both abilities and a wicked sense of imagination. Even if you aren't that of a Progressive Metal fan, there is saved place for you here, scouts honor.
