Extinctionist – Portals of Extraterrestrial Invasions

Extinctionist
Portals of Extraterrestrial Invasions
by Marcos “Big Daddy” Garcia at 16 February 2015, 4:53 PM

Since “Covenant”, third album from MORBID ANGEL came to this world, a new trend into Death Metal was born: Brutal Death Metal, when bands try to sound as fast and brutal as they could. Many arise since then, always making our ears bleed and fall to the ground due their intense brutality. Bands like Dying Fetus Brazilian KRISIUN, North American SUFFOCATION and CRYPTOPSY are pioneers and main influences for the style, but all of the granted Brutal Death Metal a more technical approach, for it’s not mere noise! To play in this fast and oppressive way demands to be a good musician. And German quartet EXTINCTIONIST shows what these guys got in “Portals of Extraterrestrial Invasions”, their newest album (their second one).

As brutal and oppressive as they can, sometimes fast and other ones slower, but with a very good technique (especially on drums), they are really good in what they chose to play. The vocals are indeed guttural (some piggish screams appears from time to time), excellent guitars (even with some melodic interventions, as Big Daddy could hear on “Portals of Extraterrestrial Invasions” song), very good bass and drums works (them both are the true powerhouse of the band), and all these elements bound together creates a strong and powerful music, but nothing really new.

The sound quality, as a demand for the style, is extremely clear, but giving the band’s work weight and an oppressive insight, turning the listening a good one, but take care of your ears!

Eleven attacks await your ears, all of them with their own merits, and the best ones are “Portals of Extraterrestrial Invasions”, “Painful Excesses of Doom”, “New Breed”, and the long “Interstellar Collapse” (long in terms of the main duration of the tracks, maybe something between 2:30 and 3:00 minutes).

At last, Big Daddy must say that this is a good and honest band, with potential to reach great things. So work on and put your efforts on it, dears!
