Facebreaker - Dedicated To The Flesh

Dedicated To The Flesh
by Lex Mishukhin at 27 June 2013, 4:04 PM

“It’s alive, alive!!!” was my first thought when I heard the opening notes of this album (It’s also my thought when I wake up in the morning, but that’s a totally different story), what’s alive? Why Swedish Death Metal of course. “Dedicated To The Flesh” takes me back, reminding me of that feeling I got listening to the likes of DARK TRANQUILLITY and AT THE GATES for the first time.

“Meat Freak” welcomes you to the album in a slow and methodical way as it gives way to the faster, Thrash infused title track. Energy is all over the place as we reach “Catacomb”, a song which makes you want to crowd jump and open a mosh pit in the middle of your living room (don’t try this at home, I doubt your dog will catch you).

“Zombie Flesh Cult” and “Mutilator” continue in this vein of heavily Thrash influenced melodic Death Metal. “Nuclear Outbreak” is a fast and furious affair that leaves no head unbanged. “Hellmaster” is a hell of a song with fantastic mid paced riff with awesome double bass beats. “Carving for Brains” will get the job done as since it’ll make your head bang so hard your brains will likely fall out (just remember to carefully put them back in before the zombie apocalypse). “Swarm of Zombies”, “Legions of Doom” and the very fast “World Cremation” continue the assault which ends with the excellent “The Tomb of the Hungry Dead”.

This album is heavy, this album is melodic, this album is pure Death Metal (or Zombie Death Metal), it’s not groundbreaking, but it’s not supposed to be, the pacing is perfectly done with faster and slower songs flowing into one another, one thing you can be sure of, it does justice to the great legacy of Swedish Death Metal.
