Damn, life is so beautiful! The last days all I see is zombies! Not real zombies of course, but albums covers full of rotten flesh! This element was kind of missing from the Metal scene and it seems to be coming back (I hope not due to this new zombie trend with
“The Walking Dead” TV series). Anyway, even though a name like
FACEBREAKER can be a bit deceiving, the band “honours” its artwork and delivers an all out Death Metal attack!
Do you remember when
Christian Alvestam left
SCAR SYMMETRY and the Swedish melodic death metallers replaced him with two singers? Well yes, this is the
Roberth Karlsson you imagines, the guy the growls behind
SCAR SYMMETRY’s microphone. The fact is that this is/was (don’t really know) his actual band, which just released its brand new third full-length album through
Cyclone Empire Records.
If you are expecting melodic guitar leads and catchy choruses better stop reading this review right now.
FACEBREAKER impressed me with their totally old school Death Metal, which draws its influences from the early 90’s Swedish Death Metal scene with bands like
GRAVE,
ENTOMBED and
DISMEMBER “contributing” a lot to the sound contained in
“Infected”. Down tuned and heavy as fuck guitars meet the classic Death Metal drumming and
Karlsson’s growling vocals to create a deadly holocaust that actually sounds so warm and familiar.
If all these weren’t enough, the band finishes you off with its incredible production, which is the work of the one and only
Jonas Kjellgren (
SCAR SYMMETRY,
CARNAL FORGE,
SONIC SYNDICATE).
Kjellgren somehow managed to retain this old school attitude in the sound with the “dirt” remaining intact, while giving extra heaviness and a crystal clear Death Metal sound. The old school sound has become kind of a trend, huh? So fucking what? You won’t hear me bitch as long as such good releases come out!
