This Swedish band was formed back 1985 playing Doom Metal. Within the world of Doom music, FAITH isn’t an unknown name, they have been considered to be pioneers or the 2nd wave of Doom Metal. Of course the first name that pops up is CANDLEMASS. Yes if you like CANDLEMASS, you will probably find this album very good.
I think of myself to be a big fan of CANDLEMASS but less of Doom Metal in general, however more of the Doomish sound that CANDLEMASS have been producing I did find it hard to compare with FAITH's new album. Don’t get me wrong "Decades Of Despair" is good album even with some twists yet it lacks the punch to become a masterpiece and I found it to be prostrating. I really looked forward to a great Doom album for some time (not considering CANDLEMASS), but it is seems that this style has a hard time finding the right bands to elevate its grandeur.
Aside to my harsh words, I can pick “Decades Of Despair” and “Ashes To Ashes” to be the best songs and true to the 2nd wave Doom Metal. Most of the other songs are mediocre at best. In addition I found it a bit strange listening to a cover for :Louis Armstrong's “What A Wonderful World”, which was very boring and missing any distinct mellow directive, so I ask why?
In the end, a disappointment, hope you guys will think differently.
