FLAMES OF FIRE is a Scandinavian band in the true sense, as it harbours members from Finland, Sweden and Norway. And as soon as the intro “New Dawn” makes place for
“Gloria” you know what’s on the menu; Power Metal.
“Flames Of Fire” is the quintessential Power Metal record that will have you on the edge of your seats tapping your feet, air drumming with your hands and slightly banging your head to the very addictive music that
FLAMES OF FIRE is throwing into your lap.
It doesn’t matter which song you listen to, it all comes at you at full force, is very much in your face, but also very enticing. You will be drawn in, your brain will want to absorb this and the happy feelings it brings will only keep on getting better, especially as there isn’t one bad song to be found on
“Flames Of Fire”. The music is written in a very mature but at the same time also in a very enthusiastic, energetic and youthful manner.
“Madness” could even be described as Pony Metal, as it gallops along all the time.
The one thing I need to mention that once the lyrics come into play, you are sure that you are confronted with a Christian Power Metal band.
FLAMES OF FIRE don’t exactly hide that fact, and quite rightly so. I really feel if they would have risen during the late eighties, they could have been the Power Metal equivalent to the Heavy Metal band
STRYPER. Both top of their class with good musicians, great voices and absolutely fabulous music.
“I Am” could have been the heavier brother of
“Jesus Makes Me Wanna Sing”.
Unfortunately for
FLAMES OF FIRE they have only come out of hiding in an era where physical sound carriers don’t sell as much as they actually deserve. Because I really do feel that they could have quite the impact. But let’s not make too big a deal of the words, unless you are allergic to religion and/or religious outbursts. They are not as much in your face as you would expect. So, the music still has the upper hand, and thankfully that is where
FLAMES OF FIRE have scored most of the points. For me enough to give them a very respectable rating. It could have been higher, but I actually do hope that they will come back even stronger.
